In a video released by the Russian Defense Ministry on Monday morning, Sergei Shoigu and a colleague are seen on a plane being debriefed at a command post run by the western Zapad military bloc.

However, the video has no sound and it is not clear when the interview took place.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry TV channel Zvezda, Sergi-Choygu appeared calm and in good health, and was discussing the current situation on the Ukrainian front with Russian Colonel Evgueni Nikiforov.

Yevgeny Prigozhin, a paramilitary militia leader believed to be close to Russian President Vladimir Putin before the mutiny that led to Wagner taking control of the southern military headquarters, demanded that Sergei Shoigu and army chief Valery Gerasimov be handed over to him to “restore justice.”

Mr Prigozhin accuses both men of incompetence and corruption and has long campaigned for their removal.

Sergei Sobyanin, the mayor of Moscow, lifted the anti-terror regime in the Russian capital after Evgeny Prigozhin’s decree.

Russia’s State Anti-Terrorism Committee said the situation in the country was “stable”.

Mercenaries of the Wagner Group withdrew from Rostov-on-Don in southern Russia on Saturday night after halting a day-long advance on Moscow in an unprecedented challenge to Vladimir Putin’s 23-year rule.

As part of a deal brokered by Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Wagner fighters who served as support personnel for the Russian army in the war in Ukraine agreed to return to their bases and receive security guarantees, while their leaders should settle in Belarus.
