The US House of Representatives’ Select Committee on China held a military review on the Taiwan Strait on 19. Mike Gallagher, chairman of the US House of Representatives’ Select Committee on China, said there would be no winners in the Taiwan conflict, but the US media quoted sources as saying that the US could not stop China from invading Taiwan.

The PLA would suffer heavy losses in the month-long war, 80 naval ships would be sunk by the Americans, but at the same time, 80,000 PLA troops would land on Taiwan.

The US House Select Committee on China held a two-hour closed-door discussion on the Taiwan Strait on Monday. The chairman of the committee, James Gallagher, did not directly comment on who won or lost, but said that “nobody wins” when deterrence fails. He also said that the outcome of the discussion shows that the conflict will not be confined to the Taiwan Strait.

The website of the Washington Free Beacon, a conservative media outlet in the United States, reported the news on Tuesday under the headline, “The U.S. cannot stop a Chinese invasion of Taiwan in a congressional campaign.” The article quoted officials who received the briefing as saying that U.S. deterrence failed and the People’s Liberation Army preempted the attack.

According to military results, the PLA suffered heavy losses during the month-long war, with the US sinking about 80 PLA Navy ships, but the PLA was still able to “place about 80,000 troops in Taiwan”.

The results also showed that the global economy would “completely collapse”, indicating that a Taiwan war would trigger huge international fluctuations.

The military push also shows that the current deterrence policy of the United States is not enough to stop the military bombing of Taiwan. The People’s Liberation Army cut Taiwan’s submarine cables in simulation exercises, effectively isolating Taiwan from the rest of the world. This step allowed the liberation army to occupy Taiwan and conquer Taiwan’s defense.

Since the war broke out, “the US has adopted a decentralized posture in the region and reduced the amphibious assault capability of the PLA through long-range strikes,” the source said.

The source said that due to time constraints, the outcome of the war has not been clear. Despite the huge cost to China, both economically and militarily, “the resolve to take Taiwan remains strong.”

The push also showed the importance of long range missiles in any conflict, and the U.S. military quickly ran out of long range stealth anti-ship cruise missiles, which are important weapons for sinking disengaged warships.

The US also imposed further sanctions on China after the People’s Liberation Army invaded Taiwan, but many Allies were reluctant to join in and global supply chains collapsed in chaos, underscoring the need for companies to prepare for conflict in the Taiwan Strait.

The source also pointed out that resupplying Taiwan would become “unfeasible” in the event of a war, so the US would have to make sure Taiwan had enough weapons before a conflict.

Speaking after the delay, Gallagher said the drill was a wake-up call for the United States to “have Taiwan armed before any crisis occurs,” stressing the need for the United States to follow through on a $19 billion arms sale to Taiwan, strengthen joint military training, and strengthen its military posture in the region.
