Democrats in the U.S. House of Representatives introduced a new bill Wednesday warning China against providing any support to Russia in its war in Ukraine.

Representative Adam Schiff, Democrat of California, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, led the Effort to Deter the People’s Republic of China in Supporting the Russian War Effort Act. Law explicitly give biden administration sanctions against any Chinese entity or individual permissions, if the President decided that the entities or individuals “in knowledge exports to Russia, transfer both financial, material and technical items, or otherwise in Ukraine for the Russian military action or provides the ability to avoid sanctions.”

Schiff said in a statement, in the rest of the world because of the unprovoked invasion of Russia to Ukraine, sanctions and isolation Moscow still maintained close ties, China and Russia also held a joint military exercise between the two countries, and China reported after the start of the war increased exports to Russia chips and other electronic components.

“Those sanctions continue to cripple the Russian economy, but we cannot allow them to be weakened for a moment,” he said. We must ensure that the People’s Republic of China is not tempted to help its Allies hide from the full force of the world’s economic sanctions in response to Russian aggression. And if they do, the United States must be prepared to respond immediately.”

He said the bill would send a strong signal to China that “providing assistance to Russia in its war effort is completely unacceptable and will have severe economic consequences.”
The bill was also co-sponsored by 14 House Democrats.

Since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, Republicans in the US Congress have introduced a number of bills warning China of the consequences of aiding Russia.

Senators Marco Rubio and Rick Scott, both Republicans of Florida, and Todd Young, Republican of Indiana, co-sponsored a bill in March Sanctions will be imposed on Chinese financial institutions that use other financial communications systems to transact with Russia. Kicking Russia out of SWIFT, the Society for Worldwide Banking and Financial Telecommunication, was part of the sanctions imposed by the US and EU after Russia invaded Ukraine.
