(BOXUN) According to news issued a few days ago by Guangxi Province, Guilin University of Electronic Science and Technology professor and attorney Chen Taihe’s wife Jiang Jie, Chen Taihe returned home on Saturday August 22, 2015 and continues to live at home under police surveillance. But before he was released Chen Taihe was required to give a false admission of guilt on videotape. Because their bank accounts were frozen, Jiang Jie and her son had a circuitous journey to the United States and are now in desperate circumstances.

Jiang Jie announced the news that on August 5, 2015 she brought her seven-year-old son on a roundabout trip to the United States.

The same day Jiang Jie arrived in the United States, Jiang and her husband Chen Taihe’s bank and stock accounts were frozen. When they electronically queried the bank, they received a verbal response from the Guilin Public Security Bureau Seven Star branch that their accounts had been frozen, but the police wouldn’t say why.

At present Jiang Jie is in San Francisco with her seven-year-old son, and is five-months’ pregnant. But because she can’t use her savings, for the time being she has no economic means, no insurance, and her life is getting more desperate by the day.

Chen Taihe is one of the many human rights lawyers targeted in the recent mass crackdown on activist attorneys. On the morning of July 12, 2015, Chen Taihe was taken away by the Public Security Ministry’s National Security Bureau officers. On July 13, 2015 he was formally arrested on suspicion of the crime of picking quarrels and provoking trouble. He is now detained in Guilin Number Two Detention Center. On July 15 and 25 their house was twice searched and property confiscated. In recent years Chen Taihe actively worked on promoting jury reform.
