Rights activist Chen Qiongshu re-imprisoned for Twitter post criticizing the September military parade

(BOXUN) On Tuesday, August 25, 2015 in Chengdu City, Sichuan Province rights activist Chen Qiongshu was arrested by the local police and state security officers for a Twitter post criticizing the September military parade. On Thursday,August 27, 2015, his family received the local Justice Bureau’s “notification.” The suspension of his previous criminal sentence was revoked and he’s been re-imprisoned.

The notification said that Chen Qiongshu had violated the terms of his suspended sentence, and in accordance with the relevant provisions of China’s laws, the Wenjiang District, Chengdu City People’s Court issued the following ruling:

1. The suspension for two years of Chen Qiongshu’s sentence is revoked; and

2. Chen Qiongshu will immediately begin serving his original 1 1/2 year prison sentence.

Chen Qiongshu has already been reimprisoned by the authorities.

On September 27, 2013, Chengdu taxi-owner activist Chen Qiongshu was detained for “disrupting public order by gathering a crowd to protest.” He was sentenced to 1 1/2 year’s imprisonment, suspended for two years
