Former Environmental Protection vice minister under investigation, who will be the next

On Thursday July 30, 2015 the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection website reported that former vice minister of Environmental Protection and Communist Party committee member Zhang Lijun is under investigation for suspicion of serious violations of discipline.

In 2013 BOXUN began reporting that top officials in the Ministry of Environmental Protection were in trouble for nepotism. There are signals that Zhou Shengxian will be a “big tiger” roped in by Zhang Lijun.

Zhou Shengxian did all his illicit money-for-power trading through Zhang Lijun and his niece. They described it as being “Red Hat Intermediaries.” In fact, as Minister of Environmental Protection Zhou Shengxian wouldn’t be involved in day to day environmental protection work, he left all this to his right-hand man Zhang Lijun who he empowered to represent him and operate as his “Red Hat Intermediary.”
