Rights activists Guo Bin, Yang Zhanqing seized in simultaneous nighttime arrests

Zhengzhou, Henan Province: On Friday June 12, 2015 at approximately 10 p.m., Beijing police arrested Zhengzhou Yirenping activist Guo Bin at his child’s bedside in Shenzhen Children’s Hospital. At the same time, Zhengzhou police seized former Yirenping worker Yang Zhanqing at his home in Huizhou. Both are suspected of “illegal economic activity.” It’s reported that Yang Zhanqing is being held in Huiyang District Detention Center in Huizhou Municipality. Guo Bin is suspected of being held in the Shenzhen Futian Detention Center.

Anti-discrimination organization Zhengzhou Yirenping was searched in June and July last year. Police seized computers and documents, banks accounts were frozen, and its relationship with foreign organizations was investigated. Henan Zhengzhou Yirenping was established in May 2006 as a non-profit charitable organization. It is devoted to anti-discrimination legal education, anti-discrimination rights litigation, food and drug safety and other public welfare activities.
