Bowen Press (bowenpress.com) Exclusive: Myanmar’s leading political opposition leader, Nobel Peace Prize laureate Aung San Suu Kyi, today ended a five-day visit in China and returned home via Yunnan province.

Bowen News Agency has learned from those who have followed her visit closely that on Thursday June 11, 2015, while meeting Xi Jinping in Beijing, Aung San Suu Kyi raised the issue of her fellow Nobel peace laureate Liu Xiaobo, now imprisoned in China. She personally expressed concern about his case. Xi did not directly reply to her question, but instead emphasized the traditional friendship between China and Myanmar.

But on another occasion the Chinese staff did notify Aung San of Liu Xiaobo’s most recent status. They emphasized that under Chinese law Liu had been sentenced to prison. He’s currently serving his sentence, and is being treated humanely. Based on prior agreement, neither side was to publicize the issue of Liu Xiaobo until Aung San returned home.
