On Sunday May 31, 2015, Ma Lianshun traveled with two other lawyers to Qing’an County, Heilongjiang Province. According to a microblog post, Harbin police entered their room at 4 a.m. on Monday June 1, 2015. At 5:34 a.m. they posted their last blog post and then went missing. On the evening of June 1 it was announced that attorney Ma had been administratively detained for 15 days. Ma Lianshun is an outstanding human rights defense attorney with a strong sense of duty and courage, willing to stand up for the defenseless Yu Shiwen and give the powers-that-be a headache. It’s no coincidence that Ma Lianshun’s administratively detention took place both on the eve of the 26th anniversary of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre, and as Yu Shiwen’s trial is about to start. The authorities want to prevent any unrest on the anniversary of the massacre and simultaneously disrupt Yu Shiwen’s defense. It’s reported that some Henan Province attorneys and citizens have gone to Qing’an to attempt to assist attorney Ma.
