Motorcyclist hit by BMW, then assaulted by its occupants; official’s son suspected

Peace Bridge, Dongxing District, Neijiang City, Sichuan Province: At 9 p.m. on Thursday, June 4, 2015, an official’s son driving his BMW hit a water deliveryman on a motorcycle. Two people in the BMW got out and assaulted the deliveryman. More than 1,000 onlookers encircled them.

Police arrived at the scene but didn’t immediately take the injured motorcyclist to the hospital. Instead, they released the assailants. The crowd watching responded by overturning the BMW.

People remained at the scene until around 2:30 a.m. the next day. After being promised by local officials that the assailants would be investigated, people gradually dispersed.
