Former employee of China’s spy agency behind cyber attack on Boxun

Starting Friday, Jan. 23, 2015, Boxun suffered its most severe cyber attack in several years. It included distributed denial of service (DDOS) and targeted the DNS server. The attack lasted until the morning of January 26, during which the main websites Boxun.com was not accessible.

The attack resumed on the night of Jan. 28th and lasted until the morning of 29th.

Boxun’s recently wrote that Founder Securities’ Guo Wengui was a long-time employee of Vice-Minister Ma Jian at the State Security Ministry, China’s spy agency. Ma was in charge of counter-intelligence, including monitoring Chinese students and others overseas. He recently was detained on suspicion of corruption.

Boxun has learned that Guo Wengui paid for the hackers to attack foreign websites. The source of the attack on Boxun is unclear. But it’s said that Guo Wengui recently entered America.

Boxun’s reporter Xinuo recently disclosed that many of Guo Wengui’s family members in China have been detained.
