Villagers demonstrate and barricade government headquarters

Baisheng Village, Xiao’ao Township, Lianjiang County, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province: The village Communist Party secretary, village chief and other officials privately sold village land at an artificially low price to real estate developers. Village representatives, in seeking redress, were confronted by thugs carrying steel pipes. Some villagers were injured.

Villager “Straighten our Backs Like Utility Poles” said: Half of the village’s clam-raising sea area was usurped by Communist Party secretary Chi Hongbiao, village head Ye Xinzhu and village official Chi Fengbiao. They sold the rights at an artificially low price. The whole village was unaware of this. It’s reported that the village government and fraudulent village representatives signed the contract misrepresenting it as the public will. They twice this way deceived higher level government into approving for sale more than 200 mu of “waste land”

On Saturday January 10, 2015 more than 100 villagers began a protest march, carrying their wounded and barricading the Lianjiang County government headquarters, blocking the main road traffic and demanding redress. A large number of police are now on the scene standing guard.
