Lawyer for arrested IT activist denied access to client

On Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2015, attorney Xie Yanyi went to Beijing Number One Detention Center and demanded to see his client Xu Dong, criminally detained on suspicion of the crime of creating a public disturbance. He was refused permission by the detention center.

Police from Beijing WEstern District Denshenmen Police Station arrested Xu on Nov. 4, 2014. Xu, a native of Longxi City in Gansu Province, had tweeted support of Hong Kong’s Occupy Central movement. He’s being held in Beijing Number One Detention Center. At the time of Xu’s arrest, the Beijing Public Security Bureau searched Xu Dong’s home and took two USB memory sticks, two notebook computers, one cell phone, and one portable external hard drive.
