According to China’s The Paper online report, two prisoners suddenly died one after another within a month while serving their sentences at Ganzhou prison.

At 1:06 p.m. on Thursday November 20, 2014, as efforts by rescue workers slowed down, the image of the last moment of Zhong Xuhui’s life permanently froze on the security video at Ganzhou prison. The video showed the period from when Zhong Xuhui became sick and fell down to his being rescued and finally died. The prison authorities refused to provide earlier footage under the excuse that it was “unnecessary.” On Sunday November 23,2014, the Ganzhou City Procuratorate denied his family’s request that a third party perform an autopsy. Subsequently, the prosecutor conducted an autopsy.

Twenty-one days prior to Zhong Xuhui’s death, Xie Liansheng, another prisoner serving a sentence at Ganzhou prison, suddenly died inside the prison.

The two deaths, both categorized as “sudden death,” are shockingly similar in nature and both happened at the same prison clinic. Even the time frame (between 1:00 and 2:00 p.m.) that the incidents occurred was the same. What’s more strange is that the prison authorities refused to provide complete security camera footage of the deaths to the family members of the dead.

After the sudden death of Xie Liansheng was exposed, family members of Zhong Xuhui met with even greater obstacles in their attempt to “obtain evidence.” They were prohibited from photographing his body and their request that an autopsy be performed by a third party was denied.
