People from Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region have been banned from admittance to a residential quarter in Shaodong County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province. Moreover, some local guesthouses refuse service to people from Xinjiang, and even ethnic Han Chinese from Xinjiang have a hard time being admitted to hotels in many cities when traveling for business.
On Saturday, Dec. 6, 2014, residents of the private residential area Jinxiu Jiayuan, or “Beautiful as Brocade Garden,” on Zhuling Road in Shaodong County received a notice from the property managers: “In accordance with a government decree and due to multiple recent Xinjiang terrorist attacks nationwide, all residents must slide their cards when entering and exiting the residential quarter, lock their doors, and no one should bring anyone from Xinjiang to the residential quarter so as to protect the security of the residential quarter and personal and family safety. If you see anything unusual, call police emergency number 110 (translator note: China’s version of the US’s 911) and contact the Public Security Bureau National Security Brigade.”
