Family claims police car hit and killed a relative

Maling Village, Siwang Township, Pingnan County, Guigang City, Guangxi Province: Police say that on Nov. 27, 2014, a villager fleeing their raid of an illegal gambling party fell to the ground and died. But a fellow villager claiming to be an eyewitness says the man hadn’t been gambling and that he’d been struck by a police car as he walked along a road. His corpse was taken immediately to a funeral parlor and cremated. Police prevented villagers from going to county government to demand an explanation. They confiscated all eyewitness photographs and cell phones and arrested at least 10 people.

The man’s family, whose surname is Xu, convened a meeting of their clan members and decided they would go to Pingnan County to demand an explanation for the death. On Saturday,Nov. 29, hundreds of villagers made it to the county township and hoisted banners, including one that read: “Return to us justice, return to us real facts.” They then went to the Pingnan County Public Security Bureau headquarters to continue protesting.
