Developer hires hundreds of gang members to beat villagers

Hebei Village, Leizhou City, Guangdong Province: A real estate developer who wanted to seize land hired 800 members of the “Big Ears Five” triad to clear villagers off of it. Armed with steel pipes and cutting tools, gang members battled more than 1,000 villagers on the afternoon of Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014. Hundreds of police officers quelled the conflict after several hours. Many were injured, and netizens say the local hospital is full.
