Huilong Township, Qidong City, Jiangsu Province: On Friday, Oct. 3, four police officers beat an 80-year-old man unconscious in front of his home after he approached them about parking their car outside of his gate. He was hospitalized and died on Thursday, Oct. 9.

On Friday, Oct. 10, relatives and other villagers blocked the township government headquarters and demanded an explanation. They were told the man had been injured in a fall. However, the police officers involved supposedly have been arrested.

The dead man was a surgeon and director of the local People’s Hospital. After he retired, he continued to work for the hospital.

A relative of the victim says: “It happened like this. My grandfather was coming home and a police car was parked at our gate. Our grandfather was only going to talk to the police, hoping that they could move their car. Unexpectedly, four big and tall police wearing blue uniforms got out of the car and beat and kicked my grandfather with clubs until he was unconscious.”
