Tianjia Village, Sun Township, Gaoxin District, Jinan City, Shandong Province:  On October 10, 2014 the Jinan Gaoxin District government sent 40 city police officers and 600 officials to forcibly confiscate land in Tianjia that included a peach orchard. An excavator dug up the peach trees. Police and officials struggled with protesting villagers. One villager, an old man who fell, died and another villager was hospitalized. Photos the villagers took during the conflict were confiscated.

Local officials in 2012 tried to seize the land by offering compensation of 12,000 to 32,000 yuan for one mu of peach trees that were eight to nine years old. Nine families still have not agreed to the offer. Villagers say the process didn’t accord with Shandong Province Document Number 178. The government finally stopped waiting. There’s still no news of the hospitalized villager.
