Police seize girl’s corpse used in protest

There was a tragic traffic accident on the morning of Monday September 29, 2014 at the Shaodong County, Shaoyang City, Hunan Province train station. After an oil delivery truck hit and killed a 13-year-old female student, the truck driver left the scene of the accident. Eyewitnesses reported that the truck driver had gone into the traffic police headquarters. The family members of the victim reported the accident to the police several times with no result. They suspect that the driver has some personal connection with the police.

On Tuesday September 30, 2014, family members of the victim went to the site of the accident carrying protest banners and the corpse of the girl in an ice-cooled coffin and blocked traffic, asking the Shaodong County Public Security Bureau for an explanation. They were met with violent repression by more than 100 police officers. Several family member were beaten and arrested and the corpse of the victim was seized.
