More than 100 Guangzhou Police Seize Corpse, Arrest 26

(BOXUN) In Ji’an County, Jiangxi Province, peasant Peng Gensheng became ill with a stomach ache. At 9 a.m. on September 16 he went to The Number Two Hospital for treatment. After receiving an IV for three hours the hospital pronounced him dead. The hospital offered the family ¥100,000 (US$16,000), but the family refused, wanting to see a legal medical expert to determine the cause of death. After this the family and fellow village residents were attacked by more than 100 police. The corpse was seized, many were beaten, 26 people were arrested and more than 10 are still in detention.

In April of this year, the Number Two Hospital witnessed a similar incident. The family members of a patient who died wanted an explanation, the family members and observers were arrested by the police.
