5000 workers strike

On September 15, 2014, 5,000 Xingang Iron and Steel Group Corporation workers demonstrated, carrying banners reading: “We want work, we want to eat, we don’t want to be laid off.” They marched in the factory, protesting the government’s inaction, and as a result face unemployment.

Xingang Iron and Steel Group Corporation is located in the Xingang Industrial Park. It’s an iron and steel smelter, a large iron and steel exporter with 5,000 staff members. It’s suspected that it’s going to be shut down in the near future because of pollution.
