More than 20 protesting Inner Mongolian herdsmen violently repressed, arrested

The Erliangou Group, Baimujing Village, Shihahe Township, Wulatezhong Banner, Gubayan Nur City, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region government forcibly occupied grassland to open a mine. They only gave each herdsman a couple thousand yuan in compensation. The herdsmen protested for four months but received no resolution. So on Thursday September 11, 2014 the local government sent more than 100 public security officials, riot police, and others into the township to violently repress the protesting herdsmen. More than 20 people were arrested.

The villagers said: “Each person only received a couple thousand yuan in exchange for the entire grassland being turned into a mine. We raise sheep for a living, if they occupy this land we have no means of maintaining our livelihood.”
