Two editors from Hong Kong were arrested in Shenzhen. The official news release revealing the arrests did not mention their full names. They were charged with “publishing illegal books”.

One of them is Wang Jianmin. Wang used to work for Asia Weekly (Hong Kong), then he started DuoWei Monthly, which recently changed to Xinwei. He also owns another magazine, LianPu (Face Print) in Hong Kong. Both are popular. The magazines often report information covered up in China.

The other person is Wo Zhongxiao, who also was a former editor for Asia Weekly.

Wang is a citizen of the United States, while Wo is a resident of Hong Kong.

In early May, a Hong Kong publisher Yao Wentian was sentenced for 10 years in Shenzhen for “bringing illegal chemicals.” A  report said that the arrest was punishment by the Chinese Communist Party because Yao was planning to publish a book titled “Godfather Xi Jinping.”
