Two journalists were arrested and charged in the Guangdong Province because of they exposed corruption acts in their reports.
Both journalists work for the South Daily Media Group, which has been considered rather open in reporting. Liu Weian was arrested on May 22 when he was conducting an interview in Lufeng, Guangdong. Thu Yazhu was arrested on June 21. They were both charged of receiving bribes.
Boxun learned from a reliable source that the arrest is revenge because of their report in 2011, when they exposed a corruption case of Shaoguan City. Lin Yaoming, the former party head of Shaoguan, who is now Deputy Secretary of Guangdong Communist Party Committee, ordered the arrest.
Sources said that Shaoguan is trying to arrest more journalists.
