Illegal demolition, looting performed by real estate agencies and local government, is considered as one of the most serious social and human right problems in China.

Receiving no or unreasonable settlement and compensation arrangements, victims of illegal demolition have taken various action battle against authorities, not only to claim their property right, but also to strive for the freedom to accuse unlawful activities carried by the powers.

In Shang Dong, 2000 petition letters asking for solutions toward series of illegal destructions in local area were mailed to high ranking officials, but no replies or answers were given.

In Shanghai, a construction team consists of nearly 200 people undertook a large scale of demolition project in a local residential area Wednesday morning. One of the residents set out fire to fight against the pull-down.

In Beijing, a local resident, Xi Xin Zhu, set himself on fire in order to barricade the demolition of his village. Xi is currently receiving treatment at 304 hospital.
