Hu Bei—-Three university students died in their attempted rescue of a drowning accident happened in Hu Bei.

According to previous news reports, a group of local university students were participating in an outdoor event along Chang Jiang river bank when two young boys fell into the river.

An immediate extrication action was taken by the students, but strong river flow caused several rescuers to become the drowning victims.

Recently, reports that revealed shocking facts about this incident have raised huge controversies. It was said that during this incident, several fishers on boats nearby, who could have prevented this tragedy, refused to offer helps. Witnesses also disclosed that the fishers requested an amount of $1757 USD for salvaging each person.

Many netizens criticized the fishers for being ‘evil’ and ‘showing no humanity at all’.

Local police has confirmed the fishers’ blackmailing behaviors and claimed to investigate the case. The involved fishers might face an extortion charge; police also reserves the right to pursue legal actions against the related parties.
