Boxun reports that the central leadership, in the name of “overall stability,” has decided to abolish the petitioning of the central government over complaints system. Now all that is left is to clean up what is left of the problem. On Wednesday August 19 this new policy was put into effect. On Thursday August 20 more than 500 petitioners were taken into police custody around Tiananmen Square. This is a record number of detentions.
