Boxun reported Tuesday August 18, 2015 that the time limit for trying Pu Zhiqiang has already been exceeded with no trial yet.

On May 3, 2014, Beijing-based attorney Pu Zhiqiang attended a commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen massacre. On May 6, 2014 the police charged him on suspicion of the crime of “picking quarrels and promoting trouble.”

During the prosecution period, the case has twice been returned for supplementary investigation. On May 15, 2015 prosecutors presented the case to the Beijing Second Intermediate People’s Court. It’s reported that after filing the court review, on May 18 the court formally accepted the case. There are two criminal charges, one is picking quarrels and promoting trouble, the other is inciting ethnic hatred (the prosecution dropped initial charges of illegal acquisition of other citizens’ personal information and inciting subversion of state power). Pu Zhiqiang’s case has already exceeded the three-month limit on bringing filed cases to trial.
On Wednesday August 19, 2015 Beijing’s Second Intermediate People’s Court informed Pu Zhiqiang’s defense lawyer that a three month-trial extension was granted by Beijing’s Supreme People’s Court.
