(BOXUN) Laodi Village, Xuepu Township, Pu’an County, Qianxi’nan Prefecture, Guizhou Province: Villagers have been protesting for a month at the construction site of China Light and Power’s Pu’an thermal electric power plant because local officials embezzled their land compensation funds.

On the morning of Thursday, April 2, 2015, while more than 100 villagers were protesting at the construction site, police officers opened fire.

A villager said: “From 7-11 a.m., all the special forces and anti-riot police in Laodi Village, Pu’an County—more than 1,000 law enforcement officers altogether—opened fire on protesters and injured many. 2-3 people were killed and more than 100 were arrested.”

Many villagers posted photographs and descriptions of the crackdown. Villagers said that a county chief and several police officers were also injured in the conflict. That afternoon a large number of police searched and ransacked villagers’ homes and detained numerous activists.
