Conflict resulting from Xiamen city management officials violent demolition results in a police vehicle being overturned and police detained.

Wuguan Village, Haicang District, Xiamen City, Fujian Province city management police entered the village to forcibly demolish residences. Villagers resisted and surrounded and held the police until late last night and overturned a police vehicle. At approximately 3 p.m. on Tuesday October 28, 2014, under the new overpass on Maqing Road in Xiamen’s Haicang District, the government had yet to resolve a dispute over compensation with villagers when tens of police were dispatched to forcibly demolish residences. This resulted in the injury of one resident and one worker. The enraged villagers fought back and a conflict ensued. During the beating, Haicang District Communist Party Secretary Lin Tiande was standing there laughing.

During the conflict the villagers overturned a pick-up truck with three police in it. After this the city management police hid in a big bus. On the side of the bus the villagers wrote: “Civilized Haicang Violent Demolition Bus Full of Thugs” and other slogans.

An eyewitness said that in addition to overturning the pick-up truck, the villagers were preparing to overturn the bus full of police preparing to forcibly demolish their homes.

Until late last night the detained city management officials still had not been released.
