Boxun has learned that Beijing civil rights defender Zhou Li has been arrested. She is being held in Beijing’s Western District Detention Center.
On Saturday,Oct. 18, 2014 at 9 a.m. Zhou Li agreed to meet with someone at Fragrant Hills Park to view the changing red maple leaves. At around 10 a.m., more than ten police entered Zhou Li’s house and searched it. They seized Zhou Li’s computer, a cell phone and other items. They also detained Zhou Li’s roommate, Liu Fang, who is married to the nephew of blind dissident lawyer Chen Guangcheng. Police released Liu Fang after five hours.
Zhou Li’s arrest may have something to do with support for Occupy Central. Police have been more than 100 people on the mainland for supporting Occupy Central.
(Note: According to a report from www.channelnewsasia.com, two of Zhou Li’s friends were arrested earlier in October after they marched with Occupy Central demonstraters in Hong Kong. Police charged Zhang Xiuhua and Li Lirong with “picking quarrels and provoking trouble.”)
