In recent days Beijing’s discussions with the Dalai Lama’s representatives about His Holiness making a pilgrimage to Wutaishan have made a breakthrough.

Boxun has learned that in the past several months representatives from Beijing and the Dalai Lama have had frequent meetings in Southeast Asia and other locations. The negotiations have been making progress. The Dalai Lama has expressed a strong desire to return home and Beijing has been open to discussing it.

It’s understood that the two sides have agreed that the Dalai Lama can return, and the details are now being worked out. If he does return, it will be on a pilgrimage to Wutaishan. The Dalai Lama has stated in the past that he’s held a lifelong desire to make a pilgrimage to Wutaishan.

In an interview on Tuesday September 2, 2014, the Dalai Lama, when asked the question: “Do you believe that you’ll return to Tibet before you die?” expressed optimism. His response was: “This is certain because the state of affairs is changing.”

Although the Dalai Lama left Tibet more than a half century ago, his influence in the ethnically Tibetan regions of China exceeds any other political and religious figure. In a talk in 2011 by the Arjia Rinpoche, he said that the Dalai Lama had said in exile that the practice of killing animals for their fur was undesirable. After this Tibetans started burning their fur garments until the Beijing regime forbade it.

For many years the Dalai Lama has advocated his Middle Way approach. It’s been the biggest strength of the Tibetan’s peaceful unification movement. The progress in Beijing’s talks with the Dalai Lama presents a great opportunity for China’s integration.

Boxun has interviewed the Dalai Lama twice in the past and issued many videos of him.
