Two thousand Army veterans from Guangxi Province, Guangdong Province, and Shenzhen gathered in Hechi city in Guangxi Province to collectively demand their rights and faced off against 1000 police officers. On Tuesday, August 26 and Wednesday August 27, they went to the offices of city government and court to peacefully sit-in all night. They protested government corruption, the abuse of power, and shutting down old soldiers’ businesses. They called on the city Party secretary and mayor for dialogue. But they were rejected by the government and confronted by police instead. On the night of Aug. 26, they slept in the square.
