In Xiaolan Township, Zhongshan City, Guangdong Province, on Monday August 18, 5000 workers of the Huiya Group Printed Circuit Board Corporation began striking in protest when their wages were reduced. Workers left their factory to march, clashed with several hundred police and overturned several police motorcycles. Many workers were injured by the police, and at least six were arrested. The clash went on until nightfall and the strike is continuing.
According to reports, the workers’ monthly salaries were reduced from ¥3500 to ¥2800.
Huiya Group is one of the world’s biggest printed circuit board suppliers. It primarily produces automobile, computer, and communication technology circuit boards. Its main clients include Motorola, Ericsson, Bosch, NEC etc. It has approximatley 5000 workers.
