In Sichuan Province, Zigong Municipality, Fushun County on the evening of Tuesday, August 12, a 3-year-old girl named Qiqi went out to play and went missing. More than 100 people in the neighborhood joined the family in searching for her. Yesterday her body was found in a neighbor’s cesspool. It was established that she’d suffocated. The police investigation revealed that a 13-year-old neighborhood girl named Little Min, whose parents are migrant laborers working in Chongqing, was the murderer.

Little Min and her grandmother were interrogated by the police. According to reports, Little Min’s mother and father have been migrant laborers for many years and she lives with her paternal grandmother and grandfather. According to neighbors, Little Min is obedient and sensible. Little Min’s parents have now come back to Zigong from their work in Chongqing. They have expressed their great regret at their daughter’s crime, and will do everything in their power to make amends and personally apologize to Qiqi’s family.

Qiqi’s parents are also migrant laborers. After helping wash the dinner dishes at her house that night, she went out to play. About 8 p.m., her playmates returned home, but because Qiqi was afraid of the dark she asked Little Min to accompany her home. At the entrance to Little Min’s building, she inadvertently knocked Qiqi down while opening the door. She feared she’d hurt QiQi and that this would cost her parents a lot of money. To conceal her action, she removed the stone slab covering a nearby sewage pit, threw the little girl’s body inside, replaced the stone slab and returned home alone.
