White House physician: President Biden, infected with Covid-19, is nearing recovery

President Joe Biden’s COVID-19 symptoms are now “almost completely resolved,” the president’s physician Kevin O ‘Connor said.

Dr. O ‘Connor said Biden completed a five-day course of the antiviral drug Paxlovid late Monday, and that his pulse, blood pressure, respiratory rate and temperature remained normal.

Biden is feeling well enough to resume his regular exercise routine, but he will remain in isolation Tuesday, his fifth day in isolation. Mr Biden has been quarantined in the White House since he tested positive for the novel coronavirus last Thursday.

Health officials believe Biden was infected with the BA.5 subtype of Omicron. Dr. Ashish Jaha, the White House Novel Coronavirus Response Coordinator, said 75 to 80 percent of current COVID-19 cases in the United States are caused by the BA.5 Omicron subtype strain.

Biden, who is fully vaccinated and has received two booster shots, has experienced mild symptoms over the past five days, including “some residual nasal congestion and a slight hoarseness.”

Biden has canceled all of his in-person appearances this week, but he will continue to participate online until he is cleared to be released from quarantine.

First Lady Jill Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris tested negative for novel coronavirus on Monday. Jill Biden will remain at her private residence in Delaware while the president is quarantined. Harris was allowed to travel to Indiana Monday for an event on abortion.
