The Monkeypox vaccine is in short supply. Online reservations for the vaccine in Suffolk, long Island, were fully booked within an hour of opening on Monday morning. The New York City government also announced that it would open reservations for an additional 2,500 doses of the vaccine from 1pm today (Tuesday). People who need a vaccination can make an appointment at the Department of Health and Mental Hygiene website. The city health department says New York will get more vaccine this week. In addition to providing 2,500 doses on Tuesday, the federal government’s 14,500 doses of vaccine are expected to arrive in New York later this week.

As of Monday, 174 confirmed cases of monkeypox have been reported in New York State, 160 of them in New York City. Even when they get an appointment, people line up outside health clinics to get vaccinated. The federal government says it will take months to deliver all 4.1 million promised doses of vaccine.
Councilman Erik Bottcher said the city has so far received only 6,000 doses of monkeypox vaccine from the federal government and called for faster distribution. He said it would be totally unacceptable for New York to be caught off guard by m& # 111nkeypox in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

Health officials say monkeypox is a rare viral infection that does not usually cause serious illness. While anyone can catch the virus, m& # 111nkeypox currently spreads mainly among social networks of gay, bisexual and other men who have sex with men. Currently, only those considered at high risk of recent exposure to m& # 111nkeypox virus are eligible for the vaccine.

Appointments and vaccinations are available at three sexual health clinics, Central Harlem and Chelsea in Manhattan and Corona in Queens
