Days after Chris Cuomo was fired by CNN in December of last year, Chris Wallace abruptly announced that he would be leaving Fox News following eighteen years with the network. Wallace quickly then signed a multiyear, multi-million dollar deal with CNN’s new streaming service, CNN Plus.

Now, new reports are coming in alleging that the 74 year-old Wallace is one of the main candidates being considered by CNN to fill Cuomo’s coveted 9pm nightly time-slot, according to The New York Post.

“I want to try something new, to go beyond politics to all the things I’m interested in,” Wallace said when he announced he was leaving Fox News. “I’m ready for a new adventure.”

Another name reportedly being floated to fill Cuomo’s time slot is former MSNBC anchor Brian Williams, who also left his former cable network in December. Williams had spent years hosting a nightly 11pm show on MSNBC, and he is said to be eager to score a major primetime job on television.

Prior to his time on MSNBC, Williams hosted NBC’s “Nightly News” for years before he was fired for making up false stories about his covering Iraq and New Orleans. Despite this, MSNBC had no problem hiring him, and CNN doesn’t seem to either if they’re considering him for Cuomo’s spot!

Finding a replacement to fill Cuomo’s time slot is one of the first tasks that will need to be dealt with by CNN’s new head Chris Licht, who has replaced the disgraced Jeff Zucker following his resignation last month. Zucker resigned after it was revealed that he was in a consensual relationship with one of his subordinates that he never disclosed to his superiors at the network.

Executives at WarnerMedia learned of Zucker’s relationship while looking into Cuomo’s time at CNN. It was Zucker who fired Cuomo last year after learning of a sexual assault claim that had been made against him by a former colleague at ABC. When Zucker refused to pay out the remaining $18 million on his contract, Cuomo went over his head and went to AT&T executives, making them aware of what his former boss was doing in his personal life in an act that appeared to be revenge-based.

Licht spent years serving as the top producer on Stephen Colbert’s CBS “Late Show” before being brought in to replace Zucker. Given how many scandals CNN has faced over the past few months, Licht should prepare himself for a bumpy road with the network.
