ROBONICKEL project students participate in the international RobotChallenge championship

Students of the ROBONICKEL project from Norilsk and Zapolyarny Russian cities participated in the international RobotChallenge championship, held from 10th until 12th of August in Beijing, China.

RobotChallenge is one of the largest European robotic competitions with participants from 61 countries which has been held since 2004. Allowance of all ages and expertise levels of participants is the feature of this open championship. Despite the fact that some of them are from Asian and Central American countries, RobotChallenge is known as an unofficial European competition.

ROBONICKEL students took part in an international robotics events for the first time. The representatives from Norilsk city competed in a ‘Line Following’ race, whereas the representatives from Zapolyarny took part in a ‘Line Following and Obstacle avoidance’ race. The robot’s speed and its precision in line following were the main criteria assessed.

The robots for RobotChallenge championship were made on the base of EV3 Lego Education Mindstorms platform.

ROBONICKEL program is a joint educational project of Nornickel, Russian nickel and palladium mining and smelting company, and Cyber Class Moscow robotics school. The program is sponsored by ‘Zhivaya Classica’ foundation.
The project’s aim is the development of educational robotics infrastructure in the northern and remote Russian regions in order to produce high-tech specialists for the future.
