On September 28, 2016, Xianning City Intermediate People’s Court sentenced Wen-Xun Huang, one of the “Red Cliff Three Gentlemen,” to prison for five years for “inciting subversion.”

The court used Wen-Xun Huang’s post on Boxun News as evidence. Prosecutors claimed that Wen-Xun Huang assembled a crowd, displayed, contacted Boxun reporters and interviewed the crowd on Boxun’s behalf.

Huang was accused of publishing several articles on Boxun in which he spread “Bright China” activities, of delivering speeches endangering national security, of slandering the Chinese Communist Party and the government, of conducting a malicious attack on the socialist system and inciting subversion.

Huang will be sentenced to five years in prison and deprived of political rights for three years.

Based in the United States, founded by Wei Shi, Boxun News is a website that protests against Chinese Communist Party leadership and China’s socialist system while promoting liberal thinking and supporting Falun Gong, as the verdict noted.
