The 26th anniversary of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre has passed, but Beijing still moves armored personnel carriers and foot soldiers into the capital (video).

(Boxun, Beijing, Saturday June 6, 2015)

Boxun just acquired a video and photos taken Saturday, June 6, 2015 near Beijing Communications University. They show foot soldiers, armored vehicles, and armored personnel carriers entering the capital. Generally speaking, security is very tight around the anniversary of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Square massacre. But since anniversary has already passed, why is the regime moving armored personnel carriers into the capital now? A news source tells Boxun that there are two possibilities:

1. High-level instability, to prevent unforeseen events;

2. A few days ago Boxun exclusively reported that former premier Li Peng had died. The authorities may want to do some preparation before announcing Li Peng’s death. If Li Peng is declared dead, it’s expected that people in Beijing will have large-scale celebrations.

(Note: Li Peng was one of the top officials who urged the use of military force to end the demonstrations for democracy taking place in Tiananmen Square in the spring of 1989. Thousands of Chinese civilians tried to stop tanks and troops from entering the city.  Eventually, troops opened fire. Estimates of the deaths range from a couple of hundred to about 2,000. )
