Renowned human rights lawyer Pu Zhiqiang’s criminal investigation again extended

Boxun’s reporter was informed that because of Pu Zhiqiang’s participation in a “25th Anniversary of the June 4, 1989 Tiananmen Massacre Seminar” was arrested and charged with four crimes that the procuratorate is now investigating. In January the Beijing police sent the case to the procuratorate a second time. On Friday February 13, 2015, the Beijing procuratorate extended the investigation period another 15 days.

Regarding this, Boxun’s reporter interviewed Pu Zhiqiang’s attorney Shang Baojun. Attorney Shang revealed to Boxun that the procuratorate extended the investigation period another 15 days to March 1. Whether it was the second appeal will be revealed when the investigation time is up. Attorney Shang told the Boxun reporter that he will see Pu Zhiqiang on Tuesday February 17, 2015.

Regarding Pu Zhiqiang’s case investigation being extended, renowned human rights lawyer Liu Xiaoyuan believes that the case may be referred back to the police again (a case can only be referred back twice) to stall for time.

In addition, on Thursday February 12, 2015, Attorneys Shang Baojun and Mo Shaoping went to the detention center and met Gao Yu. Attorney Shang told Boxun’s reporter that they went primarily to wish Gao happy new year. They also brought greetings from Bao Tong, Ding Zilin, Su Yutong and others. Gao Yu thanks all friends at home and abroad who have expressed concern about her case. She hopes everyone will take care of their health and says that she will see everyone when she gets out.

Attorney Shang Baojun told Boxun reporters that Gao Yu’s state of mind is okay. But because she’s elderly and has heart disease, high blood pressure, and takes medication every day, her condition is worrisome. Also, she’s had the flu a lot lately. But she continues to maintain her innocence.
