Violent Video Appears: Villager Killed by Organized Criminals Cooperating with Police in Shijiazhuang

He Chunlu, village head of South Gaoying Village, Shijiazhuang City, Hebei Province, in the name of refurbishment, carried out the illegal demolition of more than 50 old six-story buildings as well as newly constructed buildings in the village. He Chunlu hired many criminal gang members to beat, smash, loot, and destroy the villagers’ residences. He Chunlu bribed many district and township officials. The villagers petitioned many times to stop this but it had no effect.

Gaoying Village originally had close to 10,000 residents. After He Chunlu assumed office he forcibly occupied 1700 mu (sixth of an acre) of villagers’ land and residences, and privately sold off the collective property of the village including a number of factories and guesthouses, and more than 120 mu of land. As a result many villagers moved away.

Chinese journalists just posted video on the Internet site Youku of the May 9, 2014 organized criminals’ violence against the villagers. The police and crime gangs’ cooperation was very obvious. The police shouted: “Please assist us!” One villager was killed on the scene.

Since the central authorities arrived and took up residence, they’re trying to compel the villagers to sign over their land. Many villagers have gone into hiding.
