Bo Xilai has left the stage and many mysteries still haven’t been unveiled, but the questioned “dahei”(“crackdown on underground gangs”)  action which was considered as an easy excuse for the local political leaders, esp. high-level police officers to strike their political opponent or simply any possible obstacles,  seemed still far away from ending. Recent police strike against a US citizen’s commercial entity aroused reasonable doubt that it’s more like a crime committed by former Police chief of abuse of authority, than a legitimate take-down of a gang.

Ironic enough, Vincent Hu the claimed leader of the underground gang was widely reported by various media as a model for oversea ethnic Chinese in China. His over 20 million RMB donation to his hometown Huidong County was considered generous and reflected the traditional value of gratitude. But on the early morning of June 25th, the hero was claimed by Guangdong Police to be the head of an underground gang and arrested with more than 40 other suspects from his hometown. Some citizens told the media that Vincent tried to yell to them when taken to the square of Fuxing Trade Center, but his mouth was then soon tapped by the police officers.

This arrestment was soon reported as another success of “dahei” action by Chinese media and Vincent was charged by them to be the leader of a gang with notorious history to illegally control fruit and vegetable market in Guangdong since 2002. However, it’s already common sense in China now that media always lie, esp. when they spoke in sake of the local authorities though they’re forced or coerced to sometimes. Independent reporter from Boxun managed to contact the formal business partner of Vincent Hu and his version of story pointed finger to Lin Qiang, the former Police Vice-Chief of _____ to be the person pulling the strings beneath the curtains and caused the misfortune of Vincent Hu. After several successful investments in local vegetable wholesale business, Vincent Hu and Mr. Wang (alias used in respect to the interviewee’s will) aimed to open a large-scale wholesale market in Guangdong. The considered lucrative business soon drew attention to Lin Qiang, and soon a company legally represented by him approached Mr. Wang and Vincent Hu for a proposal to be their business partner. Though Vincent was doubtful and reluctant to collaborate, Mr. Wang still signed the agreement with the company, promising a certain percentage share for the investment. It soon turned out that Lin Qiang never truly meant to respect the contract and never made the due investment as clearly stated in the contract, but the company under his control still claimed to be a partial owner of the wholesale market business with the fraud document.

The legal disruption happened ten years ago turned out to be a nightmare for Mr. Wang and Vincent Hu. Though they brought the case to Guangdong High Court and even national Supreme Court and received the verdict supporting their plea, they still faced the local pressure and couldn’t use the market to do any business 6 years after it finished construction. But the winning in even the highest legal authority in China not only didn’t help Vincent Hu and his partner to regain their investment, but dragged Vincent into quagmire. He was charged as the leader of gang and involved in a series of illegal activities including kidnaping, using violence to maintain market order and etc. and arrested with over 40 employees. Lin Qiang claimed Wang Yang, the anticipated black horse approved the arrestment, but from a reliable source of Boxun, the informant said that’s not the truth and he had enough reason to suspect it’s another so claimed to be “dahei”, but actually some conspiracy for the local officers with power to frame the innocent businessman and pursue their own interests.
