Chinese Communist Party establishes National Garrison strategic reserve troops, includes artillery (missiles and anti-satellite weapons), electronic information and aerospace service branches.

BowenPress has learned that in addition to the new General Staff Department that will include the Army, Navy, and Air Force, a “National Garrison” service has been established. This will incorporate the PLA’s strategic missile forces (the present Second Artillery Corps), which will now be known as the Army Strategic Artillery Headquarters, electronic warfare and aerospace. The first National Garrison commander will be present Second Artillery Corps commanding officer General Wei Fenghe. The political commissar will be present Lieutenant General Wang Jiasheng.

Military sources revealed to Bowen News Service that the new National Garrison will be of the same rank as the Army, Navy and Air Force service branches. These will be the new four branch services of the Chinese military. The National Garrison will have jurisdiction over the Strategic Missile Forces (namely the original Second Artillery Corps), the Electronic Information Service (the original General Staff Headquarters Electronic Technology Reconnaissance Department—General Staff Headquarters Third Department), and the Electronic Network forces organized by each major military region.

The three service branches under the National Garrison are the Aerospace Forces (including the Air Force, Second Artillery Corps and several large Anti-Satellite bases—part of the General Armaments Department), the National Space Agency (comprising astronauts’ combined arms units). This includes the presently in testing stage anti-satellite weapons, including the hypersonic speed weapons that are attracting so much Western popular attention, and also manned space-related arms.
