Nine days after the explosion, on Friday August 21, 2015, dozens of homeowners in the Tianbao Gold Coast Residental District marched in protest. Midway on the march, police intercepted and attacked them. At least one homeowner was arrested.
Numerous homeowners tweeted: Tianbao Gold Coast’s Yuerongxuan, Yueyunxuan, Xingyuexuan and 7-8 other residential districts were within three kilometers of the explosion. But the developers, in order to avoid the explosion influencing stock prices, have said the districts are four kilometers from the explosion and that they wasn’t significantly damaged. After the explosion, these homeowners have had to find their own accommodation for nine days with no compensation and no one seeming to care. The residential area is covered in white powder that has still not been cleaned up. Until now no homeowners dare to return home. But the developers still issued a public statement saying the impact of the blast was small. This infuriated the homeowners and caused them to collectively protest.

That morning, dozens of homeowners created protest banners saying: “Tianbao Gold Coast homeowners petition, we’re all homeless but we don’t have the same compensation” and other placards, and prepared to march to petition the local government. But they were intercepted and attacked by a large number of police. Homeowners uploaded videos to the Internet of the conflict between the homeowners and police. After a homeowner was surrounded and beaten to the ground, at least one homeowner was arrested.
