Attempted arson subdued on descending Shenzhen flight

On Friday July 26, 2015 at approximately 1 p.m., Shenzhen Airline flight ZH9648 was flying from Taizhou’s Luqiao Airport to Guangzhou’s Baiyun Airport when a passenger attempted to set fire to the plane. The flight crew and other passengers subdued him.

The plane landed safely at the new Baiyun Airport third runway. The plane’s 95 passengers and nine flight crew members were evacuated. Two people with minor injuries were taken to the hospital for treatment.

China’s Civil Aviation Administration’s East China Bureau sent officials to Taizhou and they’ve already begun investigating. From the video it’s presently unclear how the arsonist carried dangerous goods through the safety inspection onto the plane.
