Recently, many church crosses have continued to be demolished in Zhejiang Province. On Thursday July 2, 2015, a cross that has stood for decades on a church in Wenling City was demolished. Virtually all the church crosses in the area have been demolished. In addition, the cross on the Jinhua City Christian Holy Church faces demolition. Eleven lawyers have issued a joint statement denouncing the Jinhua authorities’ illegal action.

Along with these recent cross demolitions, Christian churches in Hangzhou, Taizhou, Wenzhou and other places in Zhejiang Province have had their crosses demolished one by one in the past several days.

On the morning of Tuesday June 30, 2015 a Christian church in Binhai Township, Wenling City had its cross removed by two large construction cranes.

Approximately 100 believers witnessed the demolition of the cross. All were in tears. This church was built decades ago. It was closed during the Cultural Revolution, but has since been reopened. It was unimaginable that it could face this tragedy now.

Legal adviser Chen Jiangang said this present cross demolishing effort is part of the authorities’ “Three Reforms and One Demolition” campaign. It shows the authorities’ naked violation of law and persecution of religion.
