On Monday April 6, 2015, due to non-payment of back salary and heating subsidies,  several thousand Longmei Group coal miners went on strike in Qitaihe City, Heilongjiang Province. They went to the municipal government headquarters and blocked traffic. Several hours later they were dispersed by police.

On the morning of Tuesday, April 7, workers blocked entrance to the Qitaihe Municipal Communist Party Committee headquarters and the State Mining Bureau. Police responded in the afternoon, beating demonstrators and arresting more than 20.

A netizen with the online name “Mom Annoying Chatter” wrote: “At 3 p.m. on Tuesday April 7, 2015 a group of workers demonstrating for their back pay were taken into custody near the train station grain depot. Twenty to thirty protesters were seized!”
